Privacy Policy

The short version

  • You type your own numbers. We never connect to your bank.
  • We don't sell your data, and there are no ads.
  • Without an account, your numbers stay on your device.
  • With an account, your plan is stored encrypted and tied to your login.
  • You can download or delete your account data in Settings, anytime.
  • Questions? Email hello@haluvra.com.

Haluvra is a debt payoff app. You type your own numbers, and we keep as little as we can. This is the one privacy policy for all of Haluvra: the website at haluvra.com, our email lists, the app at app.haluvra.com, and Glow Up payments. It says exactly what we collect, why, who helps us run things, and how to delete everything.

Who we are

Haluvra is run from Los Angeles, California, in the United States. The website lives at haluvra.com and the app at app.haluvra.com. If anything on this page is unclear, email hello@haluvra.com.

Where Haluvra works

Haluvra is run from the United States and built for people in the US. You can use it from other countries, but your account and plan are stored in the US. Some of the services listed below may also handle data in other countries.

If you live outside the US, your local privacy law may give you more rights. Email us and we'll help.

The free calculator on haluvra.com

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. The balances, rates and payments you type are never sent to us or saved anywhere. Close the tab and they are gone.

Our email list

When you join our email list, we collect your email address and, if you give it, your first name. The signup form also records the debt-free month the calculator showed you and the plan you were looking at, so we can tailor what we send. We use this to let you know when the app opens, to send the blog newsletter, and to ask what is hardest about paying off debt right now.

Your email is stored with our form provider and our email list provider, and the welcome email is sent through our email delivery provider. We never sell or rent the list, and we never share it with advertisers.

We only add you to the list if you ask: by signing up on our form, or by ticking the optional "Send me tips and Haluvra news" box when you create an app account. That box is never ticked for you, and leaving it empty doesn't change anything about your account.

If you join the list, we'll send new blog posts and Haluvra news, usually about once a week. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also reply or email hello@haluvra.com and we'll remove you. The list is separate from your app account. Unsubscribing doesn't delete your account, and deleting your account doesn't take you off the list. Email us if you want off both.

The app at app.haluvra.com

If you create an account, we collect:

  • Your email address and password. We use them only so you can log in and reset your password. Your password is stored as a one-way hash, which means nobody, including us, can read it.
  • The numbers you type. Your first name if you give it, your debts (a name, balance, interest rate, minimum payment and due day), the payments you log, your monthly budget, and your savings goals and deposits. We use them to build your plan and nothing else.
  • Your agreement. When you create an account, we save that you agreed to our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy, that you confirmed you're 18 or older, which version of the terms you agreed to, and when. If you tick the optional box for tips and news, we save that choice and when you made it. We keep this as a record of your consent.
  • Your reminder setting. If you turn on due date emails, we save that choice (on or off) with your account.
  • If you pay for Glow Up. Our payment processor handles payments. You type your card on its own secure page, and Haluvra never sees or stores your full card number. We keep your plan, its status (free trial, active or canceled), the trial and renewal dates, and a record of each payment: the date, the amount, the currency and the payment processor's reference numbers.
  • If you join through a friend's invite link. We keep a record of who invited whom, so we can give both of you your free months.

You can also use the app without an account. In that case your numbers stay in your browser on your own device and never reach our servers. If you create an account later, you choose whether to save them to it.

That is the whole list. We do not collect your date of birth, income, Social Security number, account numbers or anything from your bank.

We process your data on the basis of your consent and to perform the service you signed up for.

Due date reminder emails (optional)

If you have an account, you can ask Haluvra to email you 3 days before a card's payment is due. This is off unless you turn it on in Settings, and you can turn it off there at any time or use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every reminder.

To send a reminder we use only your email address, your first name if you gave one, and the name and due day of each card. We check whether a card still has a balance so we do not remind you about a card you have paid off, but reminders never include your balances, interest rates, payments or any other numbers. The emails come from hello@haluvra.com and are delivered by our email delivery provider. We keep a short record of the day a reminder was sent and how many cards it covered, so nobody gets the same reminder twice.

Reminders are a convenience, not a guarantee. Always check the due date on your statement.

Add to my calendar

When you tap "Add to my calendar", your phone downloads a small calendar file that creates a monthly reminder for each card. The link that builds the file carries only each card's name and due day. Our server turns it into the file and does not store or log it. Once the event is on your phone's calendar it is yours: we cannot see it, change it or remove it.

Milestone share image

When you reach a milestone, you can make an image to share your progress. The image is created on your own device and nothing is uploaded to us. It is only shared if you choose to share it, and only with the people or apps you pick. Check what the image shows, such as amounts paid off, before you post it.

Basic technical logs and analytics

Our hosting and database providers keep standard server logs for a short time (things like your IP address, browser type and the time of a request) to keep the service running and secure. We do not use them to profile you.

The website uses privacy-friendly analytics to count visits. It records the page you viewed, where you came from, your browser and screen size, and your country. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not collect or store anything that identifies you personally. It does not follow you across other websites. The app itself has no analytics.

Who can see your numbers

Your plan is tied to your login, and the app only shows it to you. We don't look at anyone's plan for marketing or ads. A very small number of people who run Haluvra can reach the database. We only look at your account data when you ask us for help with it, when we need to fix a problem with your account, or when the law requires it.

What we never do

  • We never connect to your bank, card or lender, and we never ask for login details for them.
  • We never sell your personal information, and we never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
  • The app never sends you marketing email unless you ask for it by ticking the optional tips and news box. Otherwise it only sends emails about your account: confirming your address, resetting your password, changing your email, due date reminders if you turn them on, and, if you start Glow Up, emails about your trial and payments (including a confirmation when your trial starts, with the date it ends, the price and a link to cancel). Emails from our email list go only to people who signed up for them.

Who helps us run Haluvra

A few trusted services process data on our behalf. Each one only sees what it needs to do its job, and none of them may use your data for their own purposes.

  • A hosting provider. Serves the website and the app, runs the small server functions that send reminders, build calendar files and handle Glow Up billing, and keeps short-term server logs.
  • A database and login provider. Stores your account and the numbers you save, encrypted in transit and at rest. Every row is tied to your login, and the database only answers for the person who is signed in.
  • An email delivery service. Sends the account emails, the welcome email for our email list, Glow Up trial and payment emails and, if you turn them on, due date reminders. It sees your email address and the message it delivers.
  • A payment processor (once paid plans open). Takes your card details and charges for Glow Up. It keeps payment records as the law requires and handles them under its own privacy policy.
  • A form tool and an email list provider. Only if you choose to join our email list. The form tool collects the signup form, and the email list provider holds our email lists: your email, first name and the two signup details above.
  • A visit counter (privacy-friendly, no cookies). Counts website visits as described above, without cookies or personal identifiers.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of our users. We will tell you if we can.

If Haluvra changes hands

If Haluvra moves into a company we set up, merges with another company, or is sold, your account and data may be transferred as part of that. Whoever takes over must keep following this policy for the data they receive, or tell you about changes first and give you the chance to delete your account.

Cookies and storage on your device

Haluvra does not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers. The website sets no cookies. The app uses your browser's local storage for three things: to keep you logged in, to keep a copy of your plan on your device so the app works offline, and to remember small settings like which screen you were on. Clearing your browser data removes all of it. Logging out removes the login token.

How long we keep your data

  • Your account and numbers. We keep them until you delete your account. Then they are removed from our database right away. Backup copies kept by our database provider are overwritten within 7 days.
  • Glow Up payment records. For each payment we keep the date, amount, plan and the payment processor's reference numbers for up to 7 years, because tax law requires businesses to keep sales records. After you delete your account, these records no longer point to your account, your email or your numbers.
  • Reminders. Your reminder setting and the record of reminders sent are deleted when you delete your account. Turning reminders off stops them right away.
  • Emails you send us. We keep them for up to 2 years, so we can help if the same problem comes back. Ask us and we'll delete them sooner.
  • The email list. We keep your email on our email list until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.
  • Server logs. Our hosting and database providers keep them for a short time, usually up to 30 days, and then they expire on their own.

Delete your data

In the app, open Settings and tap Delete my account and data. It cannot be undone. If you have Glow Up, it is canceled at the same time and you are not charged again. The only thing kept is the payment record described above, no longer linked to you.

To get a copy of everything we keep about you in the app, open Settings and tap Download my data. You get one file, right away.

For the email lists, use the unsubscribe link in any email, or email hello@haluvra.com from the address you signed up with and ask us to delete it or to send you a copy of what we hold. We answer within 30 days, and we do not charge for it.

Your privacy rights in the US

Some states, including California, give residents rights over their personal information. We give these rights to everyone in the US, whether or not your state's law covers a business our size.

You can ask us what personal information we have about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also tell us to stop sending tips and news at any time without it affecting your account. You can do most of this yourself in Settings in the app.

We don't sell or share personal information, and we don't use it for targeted ads, so there is nothing to opt out of. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out request anyway. We won't treat you differently for using any of these rights.

To make a request, email hello@haluvra.com. We'll confirm it's you by writing to the email on your account or on our list. Someone else can ask for you if you give them written permission. We'll answer within 45 days. If we turn down a request, reply with "Appeal" in the subject line, and we'll look at it again and answer within 60 days.

California notice at collection

If you live in California, here is the same information in the categories California law uses. We have collected these in the last 12 months:

  • Identifiers. Your email address and, if you give it, your first name. Collected from you. Used to run your account, send the emails you asked for and answer you.
  • Customer records. Your email and, if you pay for Glow Up, your billing records. Collected from you and our payment processor. Used to run your account and Glow Up.
  • Commercial information. Your plan, trial and payment history. Collected from you and our payment processor. Used to bill Glow Up and keep tax records.
  • Financial details you choose to type. Debt names, balances, rates, minimum payments, due days, payments and savings goals. Collected from you. Used only to build and show your plan.
  • Internet or network activity. Short-term server logs and cookie-free visit counts. Collected automatically. Used to keep Haluvra running and secure and to count visits.
  • Sensitive personal information. Your account login (email and password). Used only to let you log in. We don't use any sensitive personal information to infer things about you.

We don't sell or share any of these, and we don't use them for targeted ads. How long we keep each one is listed under "How long we keep your data" above.

Children

Haluvra is for adults. You need to be 18 or older to create an account. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think someone under 18 signed up or joined our email list, email hello@haluvra.com and we'll delete it.

Security

Your data travels over HTTPS and is stored encrypted. Passwords are hashed. No system is perfect, so please use a password you do not use anywhere else. Our Privacy and security page answers the common questions in plain words.

If there's a breach. If we learn about a security breach that affects your personal information, we'll email you as soon as we can, and within any deadline the law sets.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. For anything significant, we will also tell you by email or inside the app before it takes effect.
